I have been working as a sculptor for the past 15 years, using mainly natural materials - wood & clay. I draw inspiration from the natural world (landscape, plants, animals, the elements) & my experience of it. My work is concerned with form, line, poise, movement and the sub-conscious. I like to create work that is quite abstract but none the less looks convincingly alive & organic. It can be humorous, mysterious, sensuous & intriguing. There is one artist in particular whose work most strikes a chord with my own, the Surrealist painter, Yves Tanguy. Other iinspirations: Hieronymous Bosch, Gaudi, the female form.. the weather.. ambient techno (Ellen Allien). I have two chainsaws (one for each hand). |
